Library Lines

Submitted by Marilyn Rosenberg

Since most of the local schools are on summer break, I enlisted the aid of my grandchildren in recommending a book and a DVD from the Trinity Library.

Megan is going in to 5th grade and recommends a book from Catherine Marshall’s “The Christy Series”. Megan writes about The Proposal: It’s about a girl named Christy who should be thrilled when David Grantland, the handsome minister, proposes marriage. So why do thoughts of Doctor Neil MacNeill keep popping into her head? Before she can answer David’s proposal, Christy is blinded in a terrible riding accident and all her dreams are threatened. You will just have to read the book to find out what happens to Christy. Megan recommends this book for kids ages 9-13.

Collin is going into 3rd grade and enjoyed the DVD The First of May. Eleven-year-old Cory is a foster child nobody wants. Carlotta is an elderly woman the world has forgotten. Together they find friendship and family when they join a traveling circus and show what an old has-been and a “First of May” can do. This film should touch viewers of all ages. It is rated G.

The TLC Book Club meets again in September. The Good Book Club meets July 26th to discuss “The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak.

Join any of the discussion groups.  We enjoy welcoming new members!

Library Lines are written by volunteers from Trinity Church.  A review of anything from our church’s library, including videos, is welcome. The sign-up sheet is in the library next to the computer. Reviews from the children’s and youth sections are also welcome.

Book Bank for Children!

Under the auspices of Christian Friendliness, volunteers are providing a new service in our community titled The Children's Book Bank.  The Children's Book Bank will distribute, without charge, books to children through grade 6 at their Moline location.  Children may come to the Bank and receive one book per visit as many times as they like throughout the year.  We need your donations of new or gently loved books appropriate for this age group.  Help instill the love of reading and share the magic of words with your contributions.

Please contact Pat Schluter (788-1306) for more information or questions.
