June was
a flurry of activity as we prepared for Confirmation Camp, which was held at
Camp Abe Lincoln, June 21-25. With
fourteen awesome Confirmands we explored the 10 Commandments. Monday evening we
got to know each other with activities lead by our Teen counselors, Sarah
Slothower, April Bowen, Mark Ribbeck, Emmett Schultz and adult leader Eryn
Macabbee. On Tuesday Pastor Larry showed us how the first three commandments
relate to us and God. That evening the kids were entertained by four students
from Moline High school who led them on a journey thru the land of Improv with
activities that had us laughing in the aisles!
The Confirmands then presented their own skits which were judged by the
Improv team (Go Girls!). Wednesday we explored the next four Commandments with
Jennifer Jordening showing us how they relate to the Confirmands daily lives
thru the use of song titles. Later
that day we spent a good hour in a “safe room” with the other campers
singing songs and playing games as a terrible storm passed over us, but all was
well by dinner time and we spent the evening preparing for our worship service
to be held on Thursday evening. The
evening ended with a delightful walk thru a glow room created by the boys. (They
are quite talented!) Thursday morning Jane Bahls lead a lively discussion of
Commandments 8,9 and 10. Pastor
Larry closed our lessons with a mock trial when it turned out his missing bible
was found in another camper’s bag….reminiscent of the Joseph story when the
golden cup was planted in one of his brother’s bags. It was amazing how many
commandments had been broken in that process, and we discovered we have a couple
very good lawyers in our group! With
the help of our other adult counselors (Bob Blew, Todd Slothower and Brian
Crogaert) our week, which due to inclement weather could have been a disaster,
was simply awesome.

registrations, Camp Abe Lincoln and all who helped make this year’s
Confirmation Camp such an awesome experience for our Confirmands.
